Dr Diana Wei’s academic focus is headache disorders—particularly migraine, cluster headache and complex presentations—and improving real-world care pathways. A key area is supporting patients through assisted conception (including IVF), pregnancy, postpartum and breastfeeding.
She works with Professor Peter J. Goadsby and headache teams across King’s Health Partners, collaborates with the GSTT sleep team, and delivers transitional headache care for young adults with Great Ormond Street Hospital.
A review in Nature of the biology underpinning cluster headache attacks, and how established and emerging treatments map onto those mechanisms. This work helps frame treatment choices in terms of why they work, and when escalation is appropriate.
Evaluation of a dedicated and unique transition clinic supporting young people moving from paediatric to adult headache services. Migraine was the most common diagnosis in the first cohort. The focus is continuity—reducing the risk of patients “falling between” services during a vulnerable period.
A study of early warning symptoms in cluster headache and migraine, including both routine clinical descriptions and experimental trigger models. The work helps clarify which symptoms tend to occur before attacks, supporting earlier, more targeted management in patients who notice consistent warning signs.
Real-world use of greater occipital nerve (GON) injections containing methylprednisolone + local anaesthetic for primary headache disorders during assisted conception/peri-conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding (2016–2025). The injection was reported as helpful in reducing migraine severity or frequency in 85% of patients in this cohort, with no negative side effects.
A practical, clinician-facing paper on diagnosing and treating cluster headache in real-world care, including acute treatment, prevention strategies, and common pitfalls. It reflects an approach that is both evidence-led and grounded in what actually works day-to-day for patients living with severe attacks.
An accessible overview of cluster headache—how it presents, how it is diagnosed, and what features distinguish it from other headache disorders. It supports diagnostic precision and clearer explanations for patients, which is often the foundation for effective treatment planning.
