This page sets out what to expect from your appointment with Dr Diana Wei — from the first enquiry through to your treatment plan — together with current fees, payment, and practical information.
1. Make an enquiry or book a consultation. You can book directly, or email info@londonheadachespecialist.com if you would prefer to describe your situation first. A brief medical context is helpful but not required at this stage.
2. Suitability and preparation. Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a short medical questionnaire to complete before your visit. If you have a headache diary, current medication list, or recent scans, please bring or share them.
3. Your consultation. A thorough neurological assessment is carried out, your headache history is reviewed in full, and a working diagnosis and treatment plan are agreed together.
4. Follow-up and ongoing care. A summary letter is sent to you and to your GP and any referring clinician within seven days of your appointment. Follow-up consultations can be arranged in person or virtually, as you prefer.
Every consultation includes a full neurological assessment, a written summary of the diagnosis and treatment plan, and a follow-up letter to your GP and any referring clinician.
Repeat prescriptions are included for current patients between appointments. Where there has been no contact for more than six months, a follow-up consultation is required before further prescriptions can be issued.
Initial consultations are conducted in person at The Guthrie Wing, King's College Hospital, so that a thorough neurological examination can be performed. A virtual initial consultation may be arranged where a patient has been directly referred by another neurologist, or by prior agreement where clinically appropriate.
Follow-up appointments are available in person or virtually, according to your preference.
Initial consultation (60 minutes, in person) — £400
Follow-up consultation (30 minutes, in person or virtual) — £250
Appointments outside standard hours (Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm) are available by arrangement; a £100 supplement applies.
Procedures are offered only after an initial consultation, where clinically appropriate.
Greater occipital nerve block procedure fee £250 + medication fee £100 (invoiced separately by The Guthrie Clinic).
A summary letter to your GP and to any referring clinician is included as part of every consultation.
Separate letters and reports (for insurers, employers, schools or other third parties) are charged at £150 and are typically completed within seven working days of payment being received.
Any scans, blood tests or other investigations requested are arranged and invoiced separately by the hospital.
For insured patients, please check with your insurer that any recommended investigation is covered before it is arranged — investigations typically require their own pre-authorisation, separate from your consultation.
Self-pay: a Stripe payment link is sent in advance of your appointment.
Insurance: Dr Wei is fee-assured with all major insurers — Allianz, Aviva, AXA, BUPA, Vitality and WPA. Your consultant fees are agreed with your insurer in advance and accepted as full payment, with no shortfall to pay. Please provide your pre-authorisation code and policy number before your appointment.
At least 24 hours' notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less notice may incur a fee of 50% of the consultation cost, in line with our cancellation policy.
If you need to make changes, please contact us as early as possible — we will do our best to accommodate.
Patients are seen from age 16 onwards, including adolescents and young adults moving from paediatric to adult neurology services.
